SSL Encryption With a Custom Certificate

Learn how to add a custom certificate.

1. Getting Started

  1. Log in to the Webhosting Control Panel (WCP).
  2. Click on the desired domain.
  3. In the Dashboard tab, click on SSL /TLS Certificates.
Highlighted button for SSL/TLS certificates in the WCP.

4. If you have not yet installed an SSL certificate, click Manage.

Highlighted "Manage" button.

5. If you have already installed SSL certificates, click Advanced Settings.

Highlighted button for "Advanced settings."

6. Click Add SSL/TLS Certificate.

Highlighted "Add Certificate" button.

2. Adding Certificate

  1. Enter a name for the certificate (you can choose any name you like).
  2. Now sign your certificate yourself (unsafe) or upload it as a file or as text.

Self-Sign Certificate or Generate CSR

A self-signed certificate is an identity certificate signed by the issuer. When you use such a certificate, you are verifying the identity of your websites yourself. Although self-signed certificates allow for the use of SSL/TLS, they are considered less trustworthy and less secure.

  1. Enter your information in the Settings section.
  2. Click Self-Signed if you want to self-sign your certificate. The certificate will be generated and will then appear in the list.
  3. Click Request to generate a CSR and private key, which you can use to apply for a certificate from a certificate authority.

Certificate as File

  1. If you received the certificate as a file, go to the Upload the certificate files section.
  2. Upload the relevant files and click Upload Certificate.
  3. Note: In some cases, a single file contains multiple components. You can upload the file multiple times. The correct part should then be automatically assigned.

Certificate as Text

  1. If you have saved the certificate as a text file, go to the Upload certificate as text section.
  2. Paste the certificate sections into the corresponding fields and click Upload Certificate.

Do not confuse the CA certificate (Chain Cert) with the CSR. Entering the CA certificate is not mandatory, but we recommend providing it. If you have not received the certificate, you can find various tools online that you can use to determine the CA certificate.

3. Selecting Certificate for Use

  1. In the Webhosting Control Panel (WCP), go to the Websites & Domains menu item.

  2. Open the corresponding domain, go to the Hosting & DNS tab, and click on Hosting.

Highlighted button for "Hosting" in the WCP.

3. Go to the SSL/TLS Support section.

4.  Make sure that the checkbox next to Enabled is activated.

5. Select your certificate, and click Save

6. The certificate will be delivered after approximately 5 minutes.
