The Time To Live (TTL) determines how long old DNS records remain valid. You can adjust this flexibly. However, not all nameservers take this into account. It can therefore take up to 48 hours for your DNS to be distributed worldwide.
Configuring DNS (CloudDNS)
Learn how to configure DNS settings via the Customer Control Panel (CCP) and save DNS records.
These instructions apply to newly registered domains with CloudDNS. For existing domains, you can find the instructions at: Configuring DNS (Existing Domains)
1. Opening DNS Settings
You can adjust your domain's DNS records at any time. This is necessary, for example, to connect to web hosting or SOGo solutions from other providers.
- Log in to the Customer Control Panel (CCP).
- Go to the menu item Domains.
- Find the domain you want to make changes to and click on the Magnifying Glass Icon next to the domain.
- Then switch to the CloudDNS tab.
2. DNS Records

specified time is a suggestion and
can be adjusted individually.
Examples of Valid DNS Records
For illustrative purposes, here are some examples of correctly formatted DNS records. These are only examples. For example, you can connect your domains to Google Workspace or Protonmail and still have the A records point to netcup IPs.

CNAME Records
Type
Description
Additional
Information
CNAME
Clones the DNS
of another domain.
- Cannot be created directly on the
main domain (@), as this would
cause conflicts with the SOA and
NS records. - A CNAME record can only be
created for a hostname if there
are no other DNS records for
that hostname. If another record
already exists for the hostname,
a CNAME cannot be added.
3. Record Presets
Record presets are predefined DNS settings that automatically set the appropriate DNS records.
- You cannot create your own presets.
- Changes will only take effect once you click Apply changes (see section 4).
Available Presets
Domain Parker
Redirects the domain to a standard placeholder page. Suitable if no website or hosting has been set up yet.
Hosting 1234 (with assigned web hosting)
Automatically sets the correct DNS records for the assigned web hosting so that the website is accessible.
4. Modifying DNS Records
- Edit your DNS records and click Apply changes.
- The system checks your entries for semantic correctness. Errors are displayed in a red box.
- Semantically correct changes are confirmed with a green box and are usually updated within about 10 minutes.
Please note that incorrect settings may result in your domain becoming inaccessible.
