Connecting a Domain to a Server

Learn how to connect your domain to a server.

1. Registering a Domain

  1. The first step to using an additional netcup domain with an existing netcup server is to register a new domain.
  2. This process is documented in detail in this article.
  3. Once you have ordered a new netcup domain, you can proceed to step 2.

2. Opening the Server Control Panel (SCP)

  1. Open the Server Control Panel (SCP) and select the server to which you want to add the domain.
  2. Below the SCP logo, there is a selection menu where you can choose the server. This will take you to the specific control panel for that server. You can also select a server by clicking on its name in the server list in the middle of the page.

3. Selecting Network

  1. Click Network in the navigation bar on the left.
  2. Under IPv4, find the section labeled rDNS.

4. Adding Domain

  1. Replace the existing URL under rDNS with the domain, including the top-level domain.
  2. Also, note or copy the IP in the IP section. You will need this in the next step.

5. Opening the Customer Control Panel (CCP)

  1. Open the Customer Control Panel (CCP).
  2. Go to the Domains menu item.
  3. Click the Magnifying Glass Icon to the left of the domain you want to connect to your existing server.
  4. Go to the DNS tab.

6. Managing DNS

  1. If not already present, add an A-Type with * and another with @ under Host.
  2. Under Destination, you must enter the IP address copied in step 4.
  3. Click Save DNS Records.
  4. It may take several hours before the server can be accessed via this domain, as this change must first be propagated via DNS servers.
