Change of Ownership

Learn how a change of ownership works.

1. What Is a Change of Ownership?

In some cases, it may be necessary to transfer one or more products from one customer account to another. Reasons for this may include:

  • A private customer registers a business and wants to continue using the products under the business or vice versa.
  • The previous administrator has managed everything under their customer account, and now, their customer should become a direct customer of ours.
  • Ordinary transfer from customer A to B through sale or other circumstances.
  • Change of company to another company form (e.g., UG to GmbH).
  • Merging of duplicate customer accounts.

You have the option of transferring contracts for selected products directly via your Customer Control Panel (CCP).

Servers and web hosting accounts continue to run normally during a transfer. In most cases, you can carry out the change of ownership process without assistance from the support team.

There are no costs for the actual change of ownership process at netcup, but there are some restrictions, which are listed under costs. In these cases, fees may be incurred and will be clearly displayed as part of the process. After the change of ownership, future invoices for the product will be billed to the new owner.

A change of ownership can only be executed once all invoices have been settled. Please note that, for legal reasons, correcting the billing address for invoices already issued is generally not possible.

2. Procedure

Sending Customer (Sender)

  1. Log in to the Customer Control Panel (CCP).
  2. Go to the Products menu item.
  3. Click the Magnifying Glass Icon next to the product you want to assign to another customer account.
  4. Go to the Cancellation tab.
  5. Click the Add product to owner change button.
  6. Read the information displayed and check the box if you agree.
  7. Click Check dependencies.
  8. Connected products and domains will be displayed. Connected products may include:
    • Servers in the same vxLAN (and servers in the same vxLAN of the server in the same vxLAN, etc.)
    • Included items such as domains, Storage Spaces, etc.
  9. Click Activate owner change.
  10. You will receive a transfer code that is valid for 14 days. Give this transfer code to the recipient (owner of the other customer account).
  11. An overview of the entire change of ownership process and the option to cancel it can be found under Products > Change of ownership (top right).

Adding More Products

As long as you have not yet given the code to the recipient, you can add additional products to the change of ownership. To do so, start the process for additional products as described above. The products will then be added to the same transfer code.

Removing Products from the Transfer

You can also remove products from the transfer code by switching to the Cancellation tab for the respective product and clicking on Remove product from change of ownership.

“Remove product from change of ownership” button.

3. Costs

For a few top-level domains, a change of ownership is subject to costs. These costs are automatically displayed to customers in the Customer Control Panel before the transfer and charged to the recipient.

  • In the case of domains, the term that has already been paid for is not transferred. Prepaid terms are not retained.
  • There will be no refunds in the event of cancellation of products for which the last invoice was still paid by the old owner. This step is necessary to prevent money laundering.

4. Restrictions

Products

For technical reasons, this process is only possible for certain products. As a general rule, instead of transferring your contract, you can order new products, transfer the data yourself, and take advantage of low current plans and new hardware.
